The Putnam Valley School District has been deemed safe after allegations surfaced that a student was on school grounds with a gun.

According to the Sheriff's Department, the incident occurred Wednesday when the Putnam Valley resource officer contacted police after allegedly seeing a photo of a young person with a firearm.

Police made contact with the individual, who did not attend school.

The investigation is ongoing, and it is unclear if any charges will be filed.

The school district has assured that there is no threat to students or staff at this time.
