A schoolteacher and a classroom aide in Pompton Lakes are facing charges for allegedly abusing a 9-year-old student, according to prosecutors.
Authorities say Todd Lewis, a teacher at Lenox Elementary School, placed masking tape around the boy’s neck and secured him to his desk for around 40 to 50 minutes.
Teaching aide Sallyann Scala is accused of failing to intervene while present in the classroom.
School officials say both have been placed on leave.
Lewis could be sentenced to five to 10 years in prison if convicted, according to authorities.
Scala could receive up to 18 months.
