Torrington police are looking for the person who crashed into a telephone pole and left the scene Friday night.

It happened near the intersection of Highland and Chestnut Avenues just after 10 p.m.

Officers found an unoccupied and inoperable black 2011 BMW 135i nearby.

Police learned the driver walked away from the scene and may have been picked up shortly after the crash.

As a result of the accident and damage to the pole, Highland Avenue was temporarily closed while crews cleared debris and installed a new pole.

Police are continuing to follow up with witnesses and are attempting to locate the driver.
