Police released new surveillance video showing three men wanted in an armed robbery in University Heights that left a group stripped of their jewelry early Sept. 21.
The robbery happened around 5 a.m. near Jerome Avenue, according to the NYPD. Police say the suspects — wearing masks and armed with guns — approached two men and a woman and took more than $9,000 worth of jewelry before fleeing in a BMW with New York plate LEN6829.
“It’s scary… sometimes you’re by yourself and they come out of nowhere and snatch it,” said neighbor Orlando Vargas.
On Jerome Avenue, bodega worker Ali, 21, said he’s grown up watching the neighborhood change.
“Today it’s them, tomorrow it’s me,” he said. “People work a lot to buy good things and people just come take it for no reason.”
He says he avoids wearing anything flashy.
“I come to work with basic things on, and I leave after I’m done," he said.
Resident Omar Romero called for a stronger police presence.
“We need more police out there,” he said, adding he won’t let his daughter run quick errands alone after hearing about the robbery.
