A fight over money in Bay Shore Thursday night turned deadly.
Investigators say the 66-year-old suspect beat a man to death with his bare hands.
James Rogers allegedly attacked Mark Iacono in the parking lot of the United Methodist Church on East Main Street in Bay Shore, just before 9 p.m. Thursday.
Prosecutors said in court that a fight broke out between the men over money after an AA meeting.
They say, Rogers allegedly threw the victim to the ground face down, smashed his face into the ground multiple times and when a witness pulled him off, he continued to kick the victim.
Iacono was pronounced dead at nearby South Shore University hospital at 9:06 p.m.
Rogers, a retired FDNY captain, who is married with 4 children, denied the charges.
There are conflicting reports from the attorneys on who started the fight.
There were allegedly several eyewitnesses, and Rogers stayed at the scene where he was arrested.
