Union Township police say that four men have been charged in connection to a violent home invasion and carjacking that happened back in September.
Police say the crime happened on the morning of Sept. 20.
Asim Key, 20, Altamir Thornton, 22, Yashir Phillips, 19 and Rahiem Maldonado, 22 - all from Newark – are accused of forcing their way into the home of an elderly couple.
Police say the victims were beaten and robbed inside the home.
The group stole the keys to a luxury vehicle parked in the driveway, according to officials.
Police say the four men were involved in a series of other burglaries across the state they allegedly committed the night before this incident.
All face multiple charges, including carjacking, burglary and aggravated assault.
Maldonado, Thornton and Phillips are being held at the Bergen County Jail on unrelated charges.
Key is being held at the Essex County Jail, according to officials.
