Federal agents raided at least two Bronx homes Tuesday in what police say was a confidential, criminal investigation unrelated to immigration enforcement.
Officers from the Suffolk County Police Department were seen alongside officials from the Department of Homeland Security at 2227 University Ave., where at least one man was placed in handcuffs, as officers carried multiple cellphones out of the building.
Agents and officers were also spotted at a multifamily home at 2112 Quimby Ave. throughout the afternoon and into the evening. At least two cars were towed from the property, and NYPD investigators were seen swabbing a gun at the location.
A tenant at the Quimby Avenue home says he was watching television when agents broke down his door and placed him in handcuffs, before ultimately releasing him while the investigation proceeded.
An NYPD spokesperson confirmed the department's participation in a Homeland Security Investigations task force, adding in a statement:
“As part of that taskforce, and in accordance with city and state law, members of the NYPD were present for a criminal enforcement action [Tuesday]."
