A robbery that began in New York led to a chase that ended in Stamford and resulted in heavy police activity in various areas of the city, police say.

Roads impacted included the area of Summer and Hoyt streets, Long Ridge Road, Wire Mill Road and Clay Hill Road.

In a Facebook post, Chief Tim Shaw says there is no danger to the public and this will be an "extended police incident."

The chase appears to have ended on Summer Street, where a car crashed.

One police car was damaged in the incident.
