Police say that an 18-year-old man was shot in the chest Thursday afternoon, near the corner of East Tremont and Prospect in West Farms. Juan Felix, who works next to where the shooting happened, said he was not surprised, because "I see that lots of times in the past too here, lots of shootings here, muggings, robberies, this is a very bad street." Surveillance video obtained by News 12 shows a person in a red jacket walking down the sidewalk on East Tremont, when they appear to bump shoulders with another person walking the opposite way. The two people seem to be yelling at each other, while two people with the person in red look like they try to get them to keep walking. After a little while though, the person in red seems to get something from one of his friends, before pointing a gun at the other person and shooting him in the chest. Both sides run off, with the person who was hit running across the street, where News 12 is told they collapsed. "Sometimes I bump into somebody myself and the person gets mad at me, I don't say nothing, I keep quiet," said Felix. "But I have to look and make sure he don't pull a knife or nothing." Cecil Godbold, who lives up the block, also admitted he has thought about this scenario in his head before, saying "I try to stay close to the wall, or to the streets or even sometimes I walk in the streets to avoid contact with people." Police confirm they are looking for three men in connection with the shooting. While the victim was originally listed in critical condition, we are now told that he is expected to recover.
