2h agoA University of Connecticut faculty member has been accused of using university and grant funds for personal travel.
School officials say Sherry Lynne Zane took 19 trips between June 2021 and December 2023 that cost the school more than $58,000. The trips included domestic and international travel. The costs included transportation, lodging, meals and other expenses.
Authorities say Zane informed UConn that the trips were to support research and teaching, which was later determined to be inaccurate.
Zane was placed on leave on Nov. 15, 2024.
Officials say Zane violated UConn's travel policy, employee code of conduct, and the university's Guide to the State Code of Ethics.
Zane turned herself in to UConn police on Feb. 13. She was charged with larceny.
Zane remains on administrative leave.
Officials say the school is "enhancing relevant system controls surrounding travel" and will now require extra levels of travel approval.
