A 45-year-old man from the Bronx was shot and killed as he exited a bar on Rockaway Avenue and Somers Street in Ocean Hill early Saturday morning.
In exclusive video obtained by News 12, the man is seen leaving the Daily Press bar at 38 Somers St. around 2:44 a.m. and heading to a parked car. Then, a male suspect can be seen coming up the opposite street corner brandishing a weapon, firing twice and fleeing the scene.
Witnesses inside the bar say he was threatening people inside prior to exiting the bar, and that those inside ducked for cover when they heard the shots in the street.
Police say that first responders performed live-saving measures on the victim, identified as Steven Battle. He was pronounced dead at a hospital from his injuries.
Police had closed the section of the road for multiple hours Saturday morning, and eight evidence markers were observed in the roadway.
The family members of the victim also appeared on the scene and identified the white Honda Accord as belonging to Battle. They declined to speak with News 12.
No details have been released about the shooter or a motive.
