Shocking drone video from the NYPD shows four people subway surfing through the Bronx, including them popping up between subway cars, climbing on top of a moving train and riding along the elevated rails.
Police said it happened on July 10 around 2:30 p.m. on a northbound 6 express train as it passed beneath the Westchester Avenue Bridge and several train stations.
“Unfortunately, this is way too common,” said NYPD Chief of Transit Joseph Gulotta.
Thankfully the kids on top of the train were not hurt.
Police released the video to raise awareness about the dangers of subway surfing.
“It’s almost like a challenge, and that’s what scares me the most,” Gulotta said.
The NYPD deploys drones daily to fight the “troubling trend.”
“A lot of times the parents, you’d be surprised, they would say to us, ‘Not my kid,” Gulotta said. “Then we show them the video that you saw, and they’re stunned that it’s their kid.”
Officials told News 12 the MTA stopped the train at the Parkchester station.
Police arrested four boys – two 12-year-olds, a 15-year-old and a 16-year-old.
“The message is simple,” Gulotta said. “This affects lives. This changes not only your life, if you’re injured; but if you die, your family’s [lives as well].”
The NYPD said the arrests marked the 200th subway surfing arrest since it deployed its drone team in November 2023.
