Moviegoers at a Sheepshead Bay theater got an unexpected show Thursday night when water began pouring into the building during severe thunderstorms that swept across the region. 

Videos shared by patrons show water cascading from the ceiling and onto the concession area inside the Regal theater, creating a scene that looked more like a storm shelter than a movie theater. 

Despite the indoor downpour, many customers stayed put, waiting in line for snacks before their films. 

"I was shocked because I come here like every other week," said one moviegoer. "I actually had tickets to come to the movies this morning. I had already purchased them, so I told my daughter, 'Look, I'm just going to cancel it because they couldn't possibly have this ready by tomorrow morning.' The toughest thing would be if we didn't have snacks."

One family told News 12 they were inside an auditorium when the water first started flowing and initially thought it was somehow connected to the movie they were watching.

"It looked kind of funny," one patron said. "Then people started getting all stirred up like it was a big thing. I figured if it was serious, somebody would have said something."

According to theater staff, this was the first time they had experienced flooding like this inside the building. Employees cleaned the affected areas and restored operations in about an hour. 

Customers who returned the following day said they were relieved the damage wasn't worse, especially as the theater was recently renovated. 

"Brooklyn doesn't have many of these theaters," said moviegoer Kelso. "It would suck if things were to escalate." 

By Saturday, business had returned to normal. Employees said repairs are being made to help prevent similar issues during future storms.
