A 27-year-old man is recovering after being stabbed inside a residential building in East New York early Friday morning, according to the NYPD.
The stabbing happened just after 1 a.m. inside 245 Wortman Ave., between Van Siclen Avenue and Vermont Street. Police say the victim was stabbed toward his back, with the wound ending up on the left side of his chest.
Paramedics were seen treating the man inside an ambulance parked outside the building. He was then taken to Brookdale Hospital and is listed in stable condition.
The scene left neighbors rattled, with some waking up to blood in the building's hallway and elevator.
“I just seen a bunch of cops and ambulance and blood in the hallway and elevator—it’s disturbing,” said resident Chris Villa. “I thought someone passed away, not someone getting stabbed.”
No arrests have been made. Police say it’s still unclear whether the suspect and the victim knew each other. The investigation is ongoing.
