Exclusive video obtained by News 12 shows the moment a 31-year-old man was shot inside a doughnut shop in Coney Island.
The shooting happened around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday inside Donut Connection on Mermaid Avenue. In the video, the victim — wearing blue — can be seen standing near chairs and looking outside, almost like he was trying to hide. Seconds later, a man in a black hooded sweatshirt approaches from outside and fires. The victim is hit in the leg and drops to the floor.
Police say the victim was taken to the hospital and is stable this morning. In the video, you also see another man in a black hat pointing a cane at the victim right after the shooting.
Outside, detectives taped off the sidewalk as they went in and out of the shop. Blood droplets were spotted near the entrance.
Workers inside said the chaos was frightening. “I cleaning and I heard the three shots. We go in the back—we try to save. Oh no, never—this is the first time, but it’s a life,” said Rufino, who was working at Donut Connection at the time.
Neighbors told News 12 the shooting is especially unsettling since the shop is a daily stop for so many people. “It’s crazy because I come here all the time—sometimes we go here for coffee during the day. There’s a lot of people who come in here all the time. It’s just getting crazy,” said Marisol, who has lived in Coney Island all her life.
Police say they are searching for three men who took off after the gunfire. One of them was last seen wearing a black sweatsuit.
So far, no arrests have been made.
