A box truck crashed in front of an Edison elementary school early Wednesday morning.
Officials say it happened near Ben Franklin School on Woodbridge Avenue around 3:30 a.m.
Police say the rental box truck was making deliveries for Amazon when a tire blew out, causing the driver to lose control. Police say the truck struck a utility pole, a pedestrian beacon and three small traffic signs.
One neighbor told News 12 that he called the police because he initially saw strange lights.
“I go outside, I see a transformer in ultraviolet. I got scared, I go back inside and contact police. I told police what actually happened. They had units on the way. Something doesn't feel right with me, I go walking down right behind me and the next thing I notice was a box truck,” says Andrew Bencivenga.
Police say the driver was not hurt. No summonses are expected to be issued.
