Police say a man linked to the car crash on the Major Deegan Expressway has been arrested.

The crash happened just before 1:40 a.m. on the Major Deegan near the W. Fordham Road exit.

Police say a 21-year-old man was driving BMW traveling south bound on the Major Deegan Expressway when he collided the rear of a 2020 Jeep Wrangler traveling in the same direction.

The driver of the Jeep Wrangler, a 26-year-old woman, was ejected from the car from the impact. She was transported to St. Barnabas Hospital in critical condition.

Police identified the 21-year-old driver of the BMW as Jose Rodriguez Ruiz. Ruiz was charged with assault, vehicular assault, driving while intoxicated, reckless driving and driving while impaired
