On Thursday, President Donald Trump threatened a 200% tariff on European wine, champagne and spirits in response to the European Union's planned April 1 tariff on American whiskey.
Area liquor stores are left scrambling to prepare for a tariff that may or may not happen.
"We're in limbo right now," says Renzo Kian, co-owner of Harry's Wine & Liquor Market. "We’re not really sure what’s going to happen."
Wine experts say price increases will be passed down to consumers.
"An average bottle," says Blake Leonard, of Stew Leonard's Wine & Spirits. "Could have an increased tariff of $10-$15 on the shelf."
The European import tax, which was in response to steel and aluminum tariffs by the Trump administration, is supposed to go into effect April 1.
