News 12 has learned from family members that one of two men assaulted in a daytime attack 18 months ago in Poughkeepsie has died from complications of a traumatic brain injury suffered in the ordeal.
The victim, Richard Bosque, was seen on witness video obtained by News 12 being beaten with a baseball bat on the ground while he was unconscious during the incident, according to his family.
They say the 38-year-old never fully recovered and lost his monthslong battle on Feb. 8.
His death certificate shows Bosque’s death was ruled a homicide.
The violence unfolded on Maple Street Aug. 20, 2023, when authorities say three men unleashed a heinous attack on two male victims in front of frightened and unsuspecting bystanders. Bosque is named as a victim in newly obtained court documents in the case.
Police say one neighbor who was captured on video carrying what appeared to be a shotgun tried to stop the attack with the firearm. Another victim is seen being strangled lying next to a car in the middle of the road. Authorities say an unnamed victim was struck with a vehicle at approximately 45 mph.
The suspects, Rakim Paulin, Jeremy Taylor and Misael Nieves-Pavon, were each charged with attempted assault and assault. Paulin and Taylor’s cases are still pending in Dutchess County Court.
Neighbors News 12 spoke to remember the case.
“It was terrible,” says one woman.
Some say they’re worried about what they feel is a rise in crime.
“It’s just not what it used to be. The whole city needs to be cleaned up,” says Kim Holman.
Court documents filed in Dutchess County Supreme Court show Taylor and Nieves-Pavon were indicted for attacking Bosque.
His family is concerned since they say no one has been charged with his murder.
Paulin pleaded guilty to assault last year for stabbing a victim with a machete and striking them with a with a car, according to prosecutors, but online records show Paulin withdrew his guilty plea in the case back in January.
He and Taylor are due in court later this month.
It’s not clear what happened to the charges against Nieves-Pavon but he was incarcerated in 2024 for grand larceny and drug charges, according to online records.
Both Paulin and Taylor were on parole at the time of the attack.
News 12's calls to the Dutchess County District Attorney’s Office for information have not been returned.
