Right, cat safety is top priority, and joining us now this morning is the commissioner of Public Works for Mount Vernon, Damani Bush. Good morning, Damani. I know you guys have gotten like 2 to 4 inches of snow. How is it looking out there now? Yeah, we still have our crews out right now, still plowing. Um, right now we're down to the blacktop, which is good, but as you guys stated earlier, our main concern is the freezing temperature. There's a lot of black ice out still on the road, so we're telling everyone to be safe. Uh, we're gonna have our second crew coming on right now to make sure that we get another layer of salt down. Right, so you guys have been out and about since last night. The major concern is the ice, uh really putting emphasis on people. If they don't have to go out, it's a good idea just to stay home, right? Yeah, please stay home if you can. There's a lot of black ice on the roads. Uh, we are putting another layer of salt down to kind of mitigate it before the temperature drops even more. But yeah, we're just telling everyone to stay off the road for right now. And how long are you guys gonna be out and about there? I mean, the ice is gonna be a major concern for a long time for us, right? Yeah, our, our second shift should be on until from now until this afternoon to around 1 or 2 o'clock and then we'll just, uh, gauge in and see if we need an extra crew on after that. And just, you know, you guys have been out there we know we can handle snow here, um, just you guys have been out for a while now and just take it slow out there and hopefully you and your crews are safe there as well. Joining us right now is Westchester County Executive Ken Jenkins. Good morning, Ken. Thanks so much for joining us. Good morning. Glad to be here. Good morning. So I believe Westchester got 3 to 6 inches of snow. I mean, that's a lot, but you guys have been out and about taking care of the roads, right? Yeah, absolutely. I mean, everyone in their local communities have been um out and about taking care of the roads. All of our roads that the county owns are, are, are open, the ones that we've been patrolling. Um, again, the DPW crews have been out there from all different municipalities and making sure that we're, um, being safe and secure. People should continue to be slow um cautious on those side roads, um, that. The DPW guys haven't got out, guys and gals haven't had an opportunity to get out, um, and deal with, um, all the buses, we're running on a weekend schedule today, um, for Martin Luther King's birthday. Um, but, um, in Yonkers, there's a couple of, uh, detours that are going around on the #2 and the #8. Um, there's some cancellations obviously at the airport, so make sure that Um, reach out there for your career if you're going out there, but, but take extra time and extra care if you have to be out at all. And it seems like a lot of the roads have been cleared off. The plows have been out and about last night and this morning, but the major concern right now is probably ice because the temperatures are so cold. Any kind of advice you'd like to give residents if they do have to go out on the roads this morning? Yeah, they, they should certainly be careful about the black ice. Um, there, there is, um, the, the salt that has been out on the roads. There was a lot of pre-treatment that was going on. Um, so there are gonna be places that there are ice. So take extra caution, take extra time, um, make sure that if you, you have your emergency kit in your car, um, if you're able to, uh, to make sure you have that, um, that includes a little bit of sand, just in case you get stuck out there. And do you know of any problems with any downed trees or power outages that anyone should be concerned about? Um, we have a report that there are very, very, uh, minimal outages at this particular point in time, but we're gonna keep an eye on it. K Ed has one reported electric outage, and IAG, and New York State Electric and Gas doesn't have any at this moment. Uh, but again, people, if they see any down wires because of the ice that's behind, um, the, the snow, so there's maybe a coating. That, in addition, I went out and, uh, um, did the, the outside the driveway and clean the car already. Um, it is the ice that's just on the car, it's just gonna be there. So, again, take extra caution, extra time, and make sure that you keep all your um devices charged before you head out on the road. Great tips there. Joining us right now is the Greenberg town supervisor Paul Finer. Paul, thanks so much for joining us this morning. Thank you very much for inviting me on your program. Of course we were chatting just a little while ago and we were really discussing how ICE is really the major concern everywhere across the Hudson Valley right now. Well, one of the reasons, um, why it's so important for cars to, um, um, stay off the roads, um, especially not parking, park their cars on the roads, uh, last night, um, a truck that was clearing snow skidded into, um, one car, and this happens periodically, so we encourage everybody for their own, um. Safety and for the safety of their property, uh, to remove um cars off the roads after after a snowstorm. Um, we had um crews out all night. They're still working as we're, as we're talking, um, at 3 o'clock we, um, after we cleared the roads of snow, we, um, we salted the roads. Um, so, um, I think the roads are in, in very, very good condition. I got Uh, the whole night and, um, today, I only had 3 minor um complaints from, from residents out of the, out of the whole town and a lot of compliments. And I just want to also give a shout out to um our commissioner, uh, Richard Fun. Um, he's in Ireland and um he Participated in some preparation uh discussions with Frank Morabito and our public works, um, you know, staff, and it really shows the dedication of our employees when somebody on vacation is actually spending the time helping us prepare for a snowstorm. Yeah, I know, and this is obviously not our first rodeo. You mentioned you had crews out and about last night into today and just advising residents that they do have to go out, just take it slow and safe, right? Right. And um at our town board meeting tomorrow, we're gonna discuss some more aggressive policy of um uh towing cars um that are parked um improperly during a snowstorm on, on town streets because it really makes it very, very difficult uh for our crews to um To do the job of clearing up, clearing the roads of of snow and In having the roads in in excellent, excellent condition and it's also, as I said before, dangerous for um pedestrians as well as um motorists because when it's when the roads are icy trucks could skid.
