Officials in Linden are warning residents about a scam circulating around town.

Linden police say several people have reported receiving fake messages that look as if they were sent by Linden Mayor Derek Armstead. They say these messages address the recipient by name and are asking for help buying gift cards for city employees.

Officials say that these texts are a scam. They say that anyone who receives one should delete it.
