The City of Kingston is launching a study to explore the possibility of narrowing Route 9W, a four-lane highway that currently bisects the city.

Mayor Steve Noble argues that the current configuration of the highway creates an unnecessary barrier to connectivity, economic development, and social equity within the city.

"Route 9W as it exists today divides our community and hinders our ability to thrive," Mayor Noble said. "This study will help us determine the feasibility of narrowing the highway and exploring alternative transportation options that better serve our residents."

The city recently received a $250,000 grant to support the reconstruction project. The study will investigate the potential impacts of narrowing the highway, including traffic flow, safety, and economic development opportunities.

The city will engage with residents and stakeholders throughout the study process to gather input and ensure that the community's needs and priorities are considered.
