Fourteen corrections officers and prison staffers will no longer face charges in connection with a 2021 controversy at the Edna Mahan Correctional Facility for Women.
The charges were related to cell extractions that left two inmates seriously injured.
A judge dismissed the indictment, citing prosecutorial mismanagement by the state.
Eleven out of the 14 staff members were indicted for aggravated assault charges.
Gov. Phil Murphy closed a portion of the facility in November 2023 following reports of sexual abuse and misconduct.
