The annual Tour de Bronx is two days away. As riders get ready to bike throughout the borough, a local shop is helping residents with final tune-ups.
"If you don’t love the bike, you can't fix the bike correctly. You have to love this sport," said Victor Perez, manager at Westchester Bicycle Pro Shop.
The 47-year-old says he was born to ride and now channels his love for cycling to help others enjoy the sport. He is even excited to be riding on Sunday.
"We are going there! At the first hour, in the first row - I’ll be there," he said.
Over the last few weeks, customers looking to get their bikes ready for the tour include Bronx Borough President Vanessa L. Gibson.
"I don’t know if she’s ready to ride but her bike is ready," Perez said.
Other customers include Bronx resident Edgar Arzu.
Arzu said the event is a family affair and showed News 12 his Tour de Bronx merch, including his T-shirt and riding number. As Arzu picked up his bike, he said he was pleased with the work the shop did.
"I like the way they work and I'm looking forward to keeping them in my list so that next year I could bring my bike again and participate in the next tour," he said.
The 31st annual event will include three riding options: a 10-mile, 25-mile and 40+ mile open ride.
The borough president's team says they already have more than 4,500 people registered to attend.
