The Office of the Inspector General says state police were justified in using lethal force during a December 2023 incident that left a suspect and a police K-9 dead.
The Office of the Inspector General says troopers were attempting to arrest Vaughn Malloy when he refused to surrender. Officers then deployed K-9 Broko.
Malloy pulled a gun and opened fire on the dog and officers.
State police returned fire and killed Malloy, according to the inspector general's office.
The case led to the creation of Broko's Law, which provides restitution for police departments when a K-9 is killed in the line of duty.
