The Connecticut inspector general released a report Monday determining that the deaths of two inmates at Garner Correction Institution in Newtown were not criminal.
In July 2024, Ronald Johnson was found unresponsive in his cell and later died.
The report says that investigators found a note inside Johnson’s shirt pocket that said he believed he was having a bad reaction to methadone.
Two days later, inmate Tyler Cole was also found unresponsive in his cell. He died just 45 minutes after correctional officers found him.
The inspector general determined the cause of both deaths to be acute intoxication caused by methadone and other medications.
