Gov. Phil Murphy has written to President Donald Trump asking him to reexamine the congestion pricing issue affecting thousands of New Jersey residents.

He writes in part:

“The current congestion pricing scheme is a disaster for working and middle-class New Jersey commuters and residents who need or want to visit lower Manhattan and now need to pay a big fee on top of the bridge and tunnel tolls they already pay. "

Meanwhile, Murphy is also offering out of state companies what he calls NJ RISE — a new program to incentivize businesses to re-assign New Jersey residents who are working in another state to a New Jersey location.

The $20 million program will provide grants to companies to relocate its New Jersey-resident employees, ensuring a residents’ income taxes stay in New Jersey, which will help increase tax revenue.

If companies in the city sign up, that would allow its New Jersey employees to work here at home and in turn, avoid paying congestion pricing tolls.
