Franklin Township CFO charged with theft by deception, prosecutor says
The chief financial officer for Franklin Township in Hunterdon County has been charged with theft by deception following an investigation into an alleged payroll double-billing scheme, prosecutors announced Friday.
Cameron T. Keng, 39, of Fort Lee, was charged Aug. 4 with one count of theft by deception, according to the Hunterdon County Prosecutor's Office.
Prosecutors said Unity Bank launched an internal investigation in June into payroll fee transactions involving Franklin Township. During that investigation, the bank identified what authorities described as an alleged double-billing scheme and reported its findings to the prosecutor's office.
Keng made his initial court appearance and was released pending further proceedings. He is scheduled to appear for a pre-indictment conference Sept. 14 in Superior Court.
