Employee arrested for allegedly bringing handgun to elementary school in Stony Point
A 36-year-old employee at an elementary school in Stony Point was arrested for allegedly bringing a handgun to the school, according to the Stony Point Police Department.
It happened at Farley Elementary School, located at 140 Central Drive. Authorities say they were alerted to the incident at around 10 p.m. Thursday.
According to police, the gun was allegedly inside the employee’s work bag earlier in the day Thursday, during their shift.
Detectives say they recovered the bag containing the gun during an interview at the employee’s home.
Police say the employee legally possesses a valid Rockland County Pistol Permit. However, bringing a firearm to school grounds is illegal in New York State.
The employee, whose name was not immediately released, was arrested and arraigned on third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, second-degree reckless endangerment and endangering the welfare of a child charges.
Detectives say the employee is being held on $15,000 cash bail or $100,000 bond and will be transported to Rockland County Jail.
They are due back in court on Nov. 10.
