What to Expect
The primary weather event will be a round of showers and thunderstorms on Sunday night as a cold front moves across Long Island. While some heavier downpours are possible, the greatest impacts appear to be brief and mainly confined to the overnight period.
Behind the front, a stretch of beautiful summer weather arrives Monday through Wednesday with comfortable humidity, sunshine, and temperatures near seasonal averages. The next chance for unsettled weather arrives Thursday as showers become possible once again.
Tonight:
Mostly clear and pleasantly warm with overnight temperatures settling into the middle to upper 60s. Humidity levels remain comfortable, and winds become light. It will be a great evening for outdoor dining, beach walks, or any late-night activities. Sleeping conditions should remain fairly comfortable across the Island.
Sunday:
Clouds gradually increase through the day, but much of the daylight hours will remain dry. Temperatures will rise into the lower to middle 80s for most communities, with slightly cooler readings along the South Shore and East End thanks to the ocean breeze.
Humidity levels will slowly increase during the day, making it feel a bit more summer-like. Beachgoers and boaters should take advantage of the generally dry weather during the day, as conditions will begin to deteriorate later in the evening.
Sunday Night:
Showers and thunderstorms become increasingly likely during the evening and overnight hours as a cold front approaches and moves through the region. While widespread severe weather is not anticipated at this time, a few storms could produce heavy downpours, gusty winds, and dangerous lightning.
Periods of rain may impact evening travel and outdoor activities. Temperatures will remain mild, only falling into the middle 60s overnight.
Monday:
A few lingering showers are possible early in the morning, especially across eastern Long Island, but skies will gradually become mostly sunny through the day. Afternoon temperatures will reach the upper 70s to lower 80s.
Humidity levels decrease noticeably behind the cold front, making for a much more comfortable afternoon. Excellent weather is expected for outdoor recreation, boating, and beach activities.
Monday Night:
Partly cloudy and comfortable with temperatures dropping into the upper 50s to lower 60s. A refreshing night with lower humidity is expected across the Island.
Tuesday:
Mostly sunny and seasonably warm with highs reaching the upper 70s to lower 80s. Humidity remains comfortable, and conditions look ideal for outdoor plans. Beach and boating conditions should remain favorable.
Wednesday:
Mostly sunny with temperatures reaching around 80 degrees. Another pleasant summer day is expected with manageable humidity and plenty of sunshine. Outdoor activities, beach trips, and travel plans should have no weather-related concerns.
Thursday:
Partly sunny, warmer, and somewhat more humid with temperatures climbing into the lower to middle 80s. A chance of showers develops during the day as another weather system approaches from the west. While much of the day will likely remain dry, periods of rain may become more common later in the day. Breezy conditions may also develop, especially near the coast.
Beach & Marine Outlook
Sunday will offer favorable beach conditions through much of the day before showers and thunderstorms arrive Sunday night. There is also a high risk of rip currents on Sunday. Boaters should monitor forecasts closely for Sunday evening, as thunderstorms may bring locally rough seas, lightning, and reduced visibility. There is a small craft advisory for Sunday.
Monday through Wednesday looks excellent for beachgoers, with comfortable humidity, seasonable temperatures, and generally favorable marine conditions.
