A Bridgeport man accused of beating his wife’s 6-year-old son to death with a baseball bat is now facing additional charges.
Abdulrahim Sulaiman was already charged with murder with special circumstances, attempted murder, assault, risk of injury to a child and criminal possession of a weapon for the attack on Sept. 25.
A judge issued a protective order at Sulaiman’s arraignment, barring him from any contact with the surviving victims, including his wife. But according to court documents, Sulaiman called his wife from jail the following month 27 times - 21 of which were answered.
During the calls, which were recorded because Sulaiman is in custody, both said they loved and missed each other. They also discussed the assault, which Sulaiman blamed on drugs, his new arrest warrant says.
Sulaiman asked his wife to get the protective order removed and encouraged her to adopt his biological child as a replacement for Jathan, per the warrant.
Police said that in multiple calls, Sulaiman asked her to share the blame for what happened and serve time with him. According to the warrant, the wife acknowledged she’d have to lie but said she’d do it for him.
Sulaiman is now charged with an additional 21 counts of violating a protective order, six counts of attempted violation of a protective order and one count of witness tampering in connection with the calls.
