WEDNESDAY: Layering and covering up will be key out the door once again in the morning, especially for the kids heading back to school. With the coldest feel expected in three years, make sure the heavy-duty winter jackets are ready, alongside gloves, hats and scarves. Also, have the winter boots because there will be plenty of icy spots with road salt becoming ineffective and any melted snow refreezing.
MORE SNOW? An isolated flurry can't be ruled out this evening as a coastal storm forms well offshore, bringing once-in-a-lifetime snows to the Gulf Coast and Carolinas.
BRUTAL COLD: The core of the cold settled in Tuesday, and will remain in place for one more full day on Wednesday. High temperatures will struggle to even reach 20 degrees for a second straight day. It will feel no better than the 10 degrees by about 3 p.m. Feels-like temperatures will be near zero into Thursday morning and teens by the afternoon.
SLIGHT WARMUP: A slow recovery begins Thursday, back into the upper 20s, and then 30s for Friday and into the weekend. Another coastal storm is likely well offshore Friday as the pattern remains "too cold to snow" for the area. Next opportunity for rain or snow is not until the end of the weekend.
