There are plenty of factors impacting summer travel this year, especially for those who plan to hit the airways.

After seeing news about air traffic control issues, accidents on the airways, higher prices and a possible transit strike, some may be experiencing some travel uncertainty.

Jamilla Martin, travel agent and owner of E.E.F.Y Travel, says this year is a bit slower than last year when it comes to booking vacations for clients.

She says fewer clients are calling in to book trips out of caution and families who typically book multiple trips per year are now cutting back on their spending and flying.

"Flights are really, really high. I have a family reunion due in Jamaica and the flights alone to go to Jamaica for them was $1,200," said Martin.

Martin says that people can still have an enjoyable summer, visiting places they've never been, sightseeing, or vacationing at a resort.

Martin told News 12 that there are plenty of destinations people don't often visit that are closer to home, like a hotel or spa stay for the weekend.

"We just were in Philly, one of my colleagues and I, last weekend and we did The Four Seasons. They had an amazing view, and they had so many things to do there. Even if you're not staying there, they have nice restaurants, the bar, the spa," said Martin.

If you do plan to hit the airways, Martin recommends getting travel insurance, doing research on your airline, airport and destination or hiring a trusted travel agent.

"Because there's so much uncertainty, you don't know what you're going to experience when you're going to the airport or when you're traveling at any time," said Martin.

She reminds travelers to plan ahead with medications and snacks. She said most of all, pack your patience.
