A Canarsie block is in shock after a man was shot and killed outside a home early Thursday morning.
Police say it happened just after 7:30 a.m. on Rockaway Parkway, between Avenue B and Ditmas Avenue. Some neighbors say they woke up to screaming—and some rushed outside to find a man badly hurt.
According to police, the 31-year-old man was shot in the chest after getting into an argument with someone. He was taken to Brookdale Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
A source close to the investigation says the shooter ran off wearing a white shirt and black sweatpants. He was seen fleeing down Ditmas Avenue, and later spotted by an NYPD drone near the train tracks by Avenue D. That source also says the suspect may have taken off his shirt while running and might’ve jumped on a train.
News 12 spoke with Stacey, a woman who called 911 after driving by the home where it all happened.
“I heard them saying ‘help, help, help.’ I saw the lady on the balcony screaming. I saw the guy running away with blood on his arm, his shirt. He said ‘I did that’—and ran away,” she said.
The suspect has not been caught as of Thursday afternoon. While no shell casings have been found at the scene, investigators believe the shooter may have used a revolver, which doesn’t leave shell casings behind. The type of gun used has not yet been officially confirmed.
The entire street remained taped off for hours as detectives went in and out of the home. Some family members and neighbors arrived, visibly emotional—some in tears.
