An all-volunteer youth ambulance company is celebrating more than five decades of helping people.
Post 53 ambulance service serves the entire town of Darien, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
The service started in 1970 and is celebrating 53 years of helping people this year.
The all-volunteer group comprises young people ranging in age from freshmen to high school seniors.
The members have different jobs and go out on various calls. An adult team member always assists the young EMTs on each call.
During their shift, which can be 12 hours during the school year, and a 24 hour shift in the summer, the crew members sleep, and eat at the post.
They also focus on working as a team.
