The Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office says the woman accused of carrying out a
string of hate crime attacks in Bay Ridge was granted supervised release.
Megan Horne, 34, of Staten Island, faces multiple hate crime charges for allegedly making anti-Muslim remarks during the attacks, telling one victim to “get out of this country.” All three victims wore hijabs, the youngest, a 12-year-old girl.
Prosecutors say the Jan. 30 attacks happened within blocks of each other, occurring within a 16-minute span.
Horne faced a judge for the first time late Wednesday night.
According to court documents, Horne is accused of uttering the remark during the first attack, where a 33-year-old woman was kicked all over her body and punched in the face. It happened at 8902 5th Ave. around 2:20 p.m.
Five minutes later, just over a block away at Gleston Avenue and 92nd Street, Horne allegedly punched the 12-year-old in the face, prosecutors say.
Then, around 2:36 p.m. at 92nd Street and Fort Hamilton Parkway, a 39-year-old woman was pushed from behind while boarding a B53 bus. According to court documents, Horne is accused of telling her, “I go first.”
Horne faces a total of 21 charges, including assault, menacing, aggravated harassment and endangering the welfare of a child. She is due back in court April 30.
