PATH riders should prepare for weekend disruptions as service will be suspended in both directions between Harrison and Journal Square to allow for critical track repairs.
The closure begins at midnight Friday and continues through 5 a.m. Monday, Sept. 15.
PATH will provide free shuttle buses between Harrison and Journal Square, as well as between Newark Penn Station and Journal Square, to help riders navigate the shutdown.
This is the first of six planned weekends when service will be suspended between the two stations. The upcoming closures are scheduled for:
• Sept. 13–14 and Sept. 20–21: 11:59 p.m. Fridays to 5 a.m. Mondays
• Oct. 4–5 and Oct. 25–26: 11:59 p.m. Fridays to 5 a.m. Mondays
• Oct. 11–12 and Nov. 1–2: 2:30 a.m. Saturdays to 5 a.m. Mondays
In addition to the PATH construction, NJ Transit announced plans to modernize its rail fleet by purchasing 200 new multilevel rail cars. The purchase will bring the total number of new cars to 374 and replace the agency’s aging single-level Comet cars.
