Veterans Day is on Monday, Nov. 11.
To commemorate the day, a flag-raising ceremony was held at CentraState Medical Center in Freehold on Thursday.
The ceremony honored military veterans, medical providers, volunteers and senior residents who have served in the United States Armed Forces. Leading the way was Navy veteran Mary Jo Burkhard, who is also a pancreatic cancer survivor.
"Have good thoughts, good feelings, all hugs, keep busy if you are busy. You don't want to stay home and go a ‘Woe is me,’ because that's not going to help anything,” says Burkhard. “You're going to end up dying that way, but just keep an upper lip."
November is also Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month.
