Police say a Kingston couple is dead following a murder-suicide that resulted in the victim being discovered after her husband jumped off the Kingston-Rhinecliff Bridge.
The tragedy unfolded Wednesday afternoon when the body of Caleb Smith, 45, was pulled from the Hudson River by authorities.
Town of Ulster police went to a residence on Fair Street in an attempt to notify family, when they instead discovered his wife, 37-year-old Kaleigh Griffin, fatally stabbed inside.
Kingston police say the evidence shows Caleb Smith killed his wife and then himself.
Two days before the murder-suicide, Smith posted a seemingly cryptic message on his Facebook page saying, “Don’t believe everything you see on the Internet. Guilty until proven, innocent or innocent until proven guilty?”
The couple previously lived in Connecticut and have two young children. Police say the children are safe and being cared for by family.
The victim’s cousin tells News 12 that Griffin was recently separated from Smith and moved into a different residence with their children.
Social media posts about the tragedy have garnered numerous comments of sympathy for the victim’s family and children.
Griffin was an award-winning filmmaker. Her short film, “A Day With Jogger John,” about a man from Woodstock, can be seen here.
