        Transformer explosion causes power outage, shuts roadway in New Rochelle

        According to eyewitnesses, the outage occurred at approximately 6:13 a.m., with flames visible on top of a pole in front of the school.

        A transformer exploded this morning near Trinity Elementary School on Pelham Road in New Rochelle, causing power outages and a roadway shutdown.
        Witnesses say the outage happened around 6:13 a.m., with flames visible on top of a pole in front of the school. Con Edison's outage map indicated that 528 customers were without power for several hours.

        Pelham Road was shut down from Church Street to North Avenue. Drop-off for students took place on the Church Street side of the school building. There were no delays.
        Crews responded to the scene, and power was restored by around 10:50 a.m.. Pelham Road has also reopened for pedestrian and car traffic.
        This incident marks the second time in recent weeks that a transformer has caught fire in the same area. Another transformer fire caused a delayed start for Trinity School on Nov. 21.
