The 14th Annual Vicki Soto 5K took place Saturday at the Hartford HealthCare Amphitheater in Bridgeport.

This year, thousands attended the 5K to honor the life and legacy of Victoria Soto, a passionate teacher who died while protecting her students at Sandy Hook Elementary School on Dec. 14, 2012.

In past years, the event was held in Stratford. This year, it returned to Soto's hometown and brought together thousands of community members.

Money raised from the race will support the Vicki Soto Memorial Fund, which awards scholarships to students who want to become teachers, funds literacy programs and helps provide education and classroom support.
