Animal experts are warning pet owners to check the status of their pets' microchip after a national microchip company closed its doors.
"Save This Life" abruptly shut down this week, and it's unclear whether pets registered with the company can be safely tracked.
Local animal shelters are urging pet owners to remain calm and check the status of their pets' microchips.
"You get a little worried," PAWS Norwalk executive director Kerry Dobson says. "There is a solution to be able to re-register your number somewhere else, and update your contact information with them."
Dobson says you should make an appointment with a veterinarian to re-register your pet's microchip with a different company.
