As you make your breakfast or prep a baking project, you may be getting ready to crack open something that is becoming very expensive -- eggs.
Chip Luco, WalletHub analyst, says, "The average cost, average now so it is obviously a little more in places like New York, $4.15 as of December."
Luco says if you look at the Consumer Price Index egg prices are up 36.8% from where they were a year ago. He says the flu is playing a role in the rising costs, but there are other factors. "There is always going to be supply and demand particularly this time of year, post holidays, and we are getting to the winter weather so people are stocking up," Luco says.
He says to bring down the cost you can buy in bulk and shop around at various grocery stores. You can also download shopping apps. News 12 checked out the app, Ibotta, while they didn't have any specific offers for eggs, you can get ten cents back by just scanning your receipt.
