Police have made an arrest in connection to the deadly shooting in Inwood that was reported earlier this week. A 16-year-old is now charged with murder.
The arrest happened late Tuesday night, just two days after the tragic incident near the 207th Street subway station. The shooting occurred just before midnight on Sunday.
Two men were killed and a third was injured in the shooting. James Michael, 44, was shot in the face and died at Harlem Hospital. Alejandro Ramirez, 40, was shot in the chest and died at NewYork-Presbyterian Allen Hospital. A small vigil for Ramirez now sits near the steps of the subway entrance. The third man, 37, was shot in the leg but survived.
Police say the 16-year-old suspect was arrested and charged with two counts of second-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon. The community is shocked that the alleged suspect is only 16 years old.
"Sixteen is crazy. It's kind of a shocker, but it's not too surprising these days," said Sarah Rivera. "You know, where we live in New York, it’s really bad over here. Honestly, it’s always noisy. There are always fights over here. It’s not a good neighborhood, but this still took a lot of people by surprise."
Candles are still burning at the vigil as many in the neighborhood are stopping by to pay their respects.
