With Hurricane Erin battering our beaches right now, beach erosion again is a major concern. Beach replenishment costs millions of dollars, and this is why. Take a look. Overlook Beach before and after a $1.6 million sand replenishment project. The town of Babylon pumped about 100,000 tons of sand to give the beach a fighting chance against Mother Nature. The offshore uh storm's gonna kick up a lot of serious wave activity. We just spent a lot of money to have sand put on. The town has been preparing for the storm by moving equipment in so lifeguard stands don't get swept away. They've also added sand to low lying areas like the Parkway underpass. People we spoke with are hoping for the best, like Kathy Wolf. She says she's seen this beach at its worst. It was really bad and the water came up and we hardly had any beach left. That's right, Cathy says regardless, she's hoping to be back at Overlook this weekend. You can watch our Taxi Long Island series Tuesdays and Thursdays starting at 5 a.m. right here on News 12.
