Christofer Colon, a 26-year-old Mamaroneck resident, was arrested Tuesday after allegedly breaking into a car on Gertrude Avenue and stealing money from inside, according to Mamaroneck police.
In a release, police said surveillance cameras captured Colon roaming through the neighborhood early Tuesday morning and trying to open a locked car. After an unsuccessful attempt, he allegedly broke into another car on Gertrude Avenue and stole an undisclosed amount of money.
Additional village cameras showed Colon targeting a third car in the New Street area, police said.
Camera footage helped police identify Colon, who was arrested within hours at 12:35 p.m.
In the wake of the arrest, police advised residents to lock their doors, remove valuables and keys, and promptly report suspicious activity.
Colon faces a petit larceny charge. He was taken to police headquarters, where he was awaiting processing.
