        Surgeon general wants cancer risk warning on alcoholic beverages

        The seven cancers linked to alcohol consumption include liver cancer, throat cancer and breast cancer.

        Alcohol consumption increases the risk for at least seven types of cancer, the surgeon general says, and he’d like alcoholic beverages to include a warning of cancer risk.
        The seven cancers linked to alcohol consumption include liver cancer, throat cancer and breast cancer.
        Nina Foley is with Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program. She said when information comes out in the media, they’ll get calls on their hotline with people seeking information. She said they have social workers to provide support as well as people in the organization who are available to help others navigate the new information. The hotline number is 1-800-877-8077.
        Dr. Richard Lee is chief of hematology and medical oncology at Mount Sinai South Nassau. “An occasional drink is not a bad thing, but unfortunately regular drinking is now shown to increase your risk of cancer,” Lee said.
