A Ridge man charged with having inappropriate online conversations with children is a former Riverhead High School teacher, according to the district’s interim superintendent.
Ryan McCaffrey, 37, has been charged with sexual assault, child endangerment and lewdness.
New Jersey prosecutors say McCaffrey had the inappropriate interactions with two children under the age of 13. He allegedly asked the children for nude photos and engaged in sexual acts while video chatting with them.
In a letter to families, Interim Riverhead Schools Superintendent Cheryl Pedisich called McCaffrey’s alleged actions “deplorable.” She wrote that he had resigned earlier this month, citing personal reasons.
McCaffrey was also the head coach of the boys junior varsity soccer team, according to the school district’s website.
