New Jersey is finally able to enjoy some sunshine today after relentless, damaging weather across the state.

Storm Wrangler 12 covered North and South Jersey from severe storms to flash flooding.

It was chaos for early Fourth of July celebrations at Union Beach, with hundreds of people running through high winds and downpours.

Lightning cracked across the sky as fireworks served as a backdrop, leaving thousands of New Jerseyans in the dark at the end of an extreme heat wave.

Friday ended in disaster in River Edge when a large tree brought live wires into a home, sending two firefighters to the hospital.

Paramus declared a state of emergency as downed trees blocked roads and damage spread across nearly every street in New Milford.

Flash flooding on Monday was blamed for the partial roof collapse at BJ’s Wholesale Club.

Twenty-seven people were inside, and no one was hurt, but the flooding destroyed businesses and homes in Monmouth County.

“Our floodwaters have receded. It was just a tremendous, short burst of rain. We received 4.7 inches of rain in less than an hour, so that led to some of the flooding that we saw in Ocean Twp., Neptune, Neptune City and Asbury Park,” said Monmouth County Sheriff Shaun Golden.

Today, under sunny skies, power crews are racing to get the remaining thousands back online.

“So obviously we got hit pretty hard in Morris County,” said Morris County OEM’s Jeff Paul. “We had to de-energize a lot. A lot had to be energized, and we couldn’t get near some residents and people who were trapped for days since Friday because of the electrical lines that were down and not enough JCP&L line crews to actually de-energize things.”

Paul said Morris County is in a better state today and gets better every day.

But New Jersey is bracing for possible storms again tomorrow.
