Days after the damaging storms from the Fourth of July weekend, people in Bergen County are still assessing the damage and trying to clean up.
Nearly every street in New Milford shows branches, leaves or tree company trucks.
On Harrison Street, a large tree crashed down on a four-car detached garage that was also Kevin Taub’s man cave.
“My garage is flat, my car is totaled, Harley in the garage is totaled, and the way insurance runs, it’s going to be a heavy loss,” said Kevin Taub.
Kevin thinks the damage could total as much as $300,000.
It was a tree from a nearby home that fell onto his property Saturday night, and on Tuesday the tree was still there.
“Word to the wise for everybody with insurance: Make sure you read all your clauses and make sure you are covered to the extent that you want to,” Kevin said.
His neighbors told News 12 the damage was really bad in this area, but his garage is the worst on the block.
“I see a lot of nails, a lot of paint, a lot of wood and steel,” said L.A. Capati.
“This tree actually came from behind my house, came on an angle and leveled his backyard, took out his deck, sliding door,” said John Ferraro. “Just a shame. It really is like a war zone.”
The damage is shocking neighbors and leaving Kevin to figure out how to rebuild or recoup.
“You’re out on your own,” Kevin said, “so it’s going to be interesting to see what happens from here.”
